Ms McGrath is a registered nurse and has an interesting back story to tell, having moved to Leeton from New Zealand.
A career in nursing was something she first considered when finishing school.
“I didn’t really know what I wanted to do when I left school,” she said.
“I thought nursing would be a good career.
“My dad also had an accident in the gap year I had from school, which pushed me to become a nurse even more.
“Seeing what the nurses did for him while he was in hospital (helped make the decision).”

Ms McGrath has a Bachelor of Nursing at Waiariki Poly Tech in Rotorua, New Zealand, which took three years to complete.
After graduating, her first nursing job was at a Bupa nursing home in Taupo, New Zealand.
After taking time off to travel, Ms McGrath landed in Leeton having met her now husband, Matthew Amery, while overseas.
She said there were several reasons why she loved getting up and going to work each day.
“Making a difference to people’s lives and the acknowledgement I get for doing my job (is one reason),” she said.
“Shift work is the hardest part for me, just always being fatigued. Physically and mentally.”
Ms McGrath has enjoyed getting to know the hospital, as well as staff members during her time and hopes to continue helping people in the future. She said a nursing career was something she encouraged young people to get into, but it was also a role many needed to really think about before undertaking.
“Nursing is specialised and is not for everyone,” Ms McGrath said.
“Anyone who is people orientated and loves to make a difference to people life’s – it’s definitely a career opportunity for you. Each day is different and you learn new things every day.”
