Education Week had many students recognised with awards at a special assembly before parents and community members were invited to celebrate the occasion with a special “restaurant long lunch” at the school.
Between 60 and 70 guests turned out to dine and sample the Mexican-themed menu, which included tacos, burritos and more.
“The lunch is the opportunity for the students to thank their parents, carers, grandparents, extended family and the community of Yanco for their support throughout the year,” principal Tarnya Grigg said.

“They decorate their own place mats, lay out the dining tables, make the decorations, assist with food preparation and serving meals and drinks to the guests.”
Students have also been participating in the Leeton Eisteddfod and the Little Learners program is ensuring youngsters are being given a taste of education before they officially start “big school”.
In more good news for Yanco Public, the school has started the new term with a third class group thanks to an increase in enrolments earlier in the year.
“Our kindergarten class currently has 10 enrolments and this is the largest class group the school has had a for a number of years,” Mrs Grigg said.
“The transition into the three class groups has taken place with minimal disruption, the students are enjoying working in their new class groups and our dedicated class teachers are using this opportunity to focus on an increased level of small group and individual learning particularly in literacy and numeracy.”
