The town’s young people, particularly those who are members of the Leeton Youth Committee, will be helping to design the expansion project and reviewing what they believe needs to be included.
The town’s skate park was opened in October, 2000 and the Leeton Youth Committee were also instrumental in this process.
It was always envisaged a stage two extension would take place at some point in the future.
Following this year’s Riverina Skate Championships, which are held each year in town, a petition began circling to call on Leeton Shire Council to include funds in its 2018-19 budget for the expansion to happen.

As a result, council went on to approved a small budget to undertake a scoping study to investigate extending the skate park.
Councillor Sandra Nardi, who is council’s representative on the youth committee, was pleased to see movement.
“The youth committee will be leading this process and have engaged Totem Skateboarding to run a consultation/workshop on September 23,” she said.
“This event will be the perfect opportunity to mingle with the team from Totem, learn some new skills and provide feedback into the proposed skate park extension.
“It is so important to gain the feedback of the users and community so we encourage everyone to come along and say hey.”
The event will be held at the skate park from om 1pm to 3pm.
The skate park has had little work since its completion and Miss Nardi is hopeful through the input of the town’s young people a grant application can be put forward to get the project moving.
“For many years Leeton's skate park was the best in the area, but over (time) other councils have been very proactive in this space,” Miss Nardi said.
“Leeton really needs this upgrade to remain competitive and also to grow the Riverina Skate Championships event.”
