Run every two years, the awards are not just about the high-profile cases or the major busts, but the little acts police do in the community that make them special.
Acting Superintendent Kim Traynor was excited to see the nominations coming from the community, showing the appreciation for things great and small.
“We had our internal awards ceremony last Tuesday, and that’s where we recognise the dedication, long service and of our officers,” she said.
“However I think these awards are almost more important, because this is where the community gets to acknowledge our work, and to show their appreciation for the work police are doing right throughout our command.”
Residents in Griffith, Leeton, Narrandera, Bland, Carathool, Murrumbidgee and the Hay Local Government Area can vote.
“One of the things we wish people to know is that these nominations cover all the police who work in those areas.”
She said what has been evident in past award ceremonies is that it’s not just the big work the police do, but the small things as well like stopping to help change a tire that mean a lot to the community.
Mayor John Dal Broi officially opened the awards, and was proud to see the event continue.
“It’s a great initiative, and as a council we support and are proud of what the police do,” Cr Dal Broi said.
“After 12 years and six events, it is amazing for Griffith East Rotary Club to have been running this event and to continue to run it.”

“It’s a great opportunity to recognise all of the work the officer do in our community. You are a bit like us in local government – people like to criticise you sometimes, but when they need you boy don’t they come running.”
People wishing to nominate can do so online or with coupons in The Area News paper or located at police stations across the district.
