Both sides knew the consequences for losing the game and the Black and Whites were able to make an early impact on the scoreboard.
After surviving a strong opening from the Hawks, the Black and Whites transitioned from defence into attack quickly as Lily Belle Misiloi making a strong break to give the Panthers the lead.
Ashleigh Harris extended the Panthers lead with a try four minutes later before Yanco’s Tess Staines crossed after a mistake from the Black and Whites to see only two points separate the sides at the break.
In contrast to last weekend, the Panthers came out firing in the second half.
Hollie Penrith found her way across the line just after the break while Jadha Anderson scored under the post in the following set to see the Griffith side starting to run away with the game.
A second try to Harris after she was able to gather her own grubber from dummy half to give her side the match-winning 20-point lead and send them into the preliminary final.
Black and Whites coach Shailyn Williams was pleased to see her side click after fading out last weekend against Hay.
“We played well last week, but we had a lot to work on,” she said.
“This week we had our first time we had all our 16 girls here, and they played really well, and they were hungry, and I think it showed.
“Our attack really flowed. In patches, we played a bit scrappy, but we pulled it together and got the result.”
Williams also pointed to the performance of two of her younger players as the ones who really made the difference.
“Young Lily Belle Misiloi and Jadha Anderson played really well,” she said.
“They are young girls playing in the senior competition, and they have been playing unreal football this year, and I'm really proud of them.”
The Black and Whites will now prepare to take on either Hay or Yenda depending on the result of the major semi-final at Wade Park on Sunday while the loss brings the Hawks season to a close.
