After retiring in 2010 I soon realised retirement wasn’t for me! So along with hubby John we threw ourselves into extra voluntary and community work.

We only joined committees where the focus was on fun and enjoyment. Over the years we have formed some wonderful friendships and the members became our second family.
One such committee is the MIA Branch of MS. This is such great cause, we help and support 60 persons with MS around the region and all the money raised stays local.
This is a very social group; we meet at the club over a few drinks followed by a meal. Working bees includes drinks and a barbecue.
The highlight of the year as a committee is holding a Christmas dinner in Griffith for all the MS sufferers and their families from around the region.
These special people are the guests of honour; they are bused in in wheelchairs, walking frames etc.
For some sufferers this is the only night they get out during the year.
We organise games and activities, we dress up and perform for them - one year Elvis turned up, another Cher and Shirley Bassey, one year we even had Whoopi Goldberg and the singing nuns.
Santa and his helpers always appear loaded with special gifts that have been donated by the business community. Christmas hampers are gifted to the sufferers.
It is such good fun for everyone. It is very true that whatever you give you get back ten-fold. For more information contact Joan Dartnell 0417 267 027.
