This year the Lions Club of Leeton is again getting behind World Sight Day, which is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment.
Leeton Lions Club member and district chairman Robert Strempel said it was important for everyone to be aware of good eye health.
“This year the Lions Eye Health Program (LEHP) will be focusing their efforts towards the importance of children’s eye health and the need for parents to have their children’s vision tested at regular intervals,” he said.
“The earlier we can locate problems with children’s vision the quicker the problem can be corrected.
“Can you imagine what vision problems would have on a child’s educational development if they could not read or see the black board.
“Imagine the problems they could have hitting a ball if they couldn’t see it
“Good vision is extremely important.”
LEHP has created a magnifying bookmark with a key message to parents, which says “as a rule test young eyes before starting school” and a special bumper sticker with the slogan “kids need eye tests too!“.

These items will be available at the Leeton library and the local poptometrists during the month of October and on World Sight Day 2018 on October 11.
Residents have been encouraged to pick up both the sticker and bookmark and discuss with their children why having their eyes checked is an important part of growing up and being healthy all over.
