Typically the town’s population is around the 500 and 600 mark, but over the course of Saturday and Sunday, 8000 people took part in the Barellan Good Old Days weekend. 

The huge crowd took in a variety of activities that covered all age groups, including a grand parade, camel races, old-time demonstrations, delicious food, musical entertainment and much more. 

Barellan Good Old Days publicity officer Carl Chirgwin was thrilled with how well this year’s event was received. 

“It was a fantastic weekend … the support was great,” he said. 

“Word is really starting to get out there about our event.”

Money generated from the event goes back into the community, but there were many immediate benefits as well. 

The town’s eateries and fuel station reported a busy trade, while market stallholders will also go back to their respective homes in the MIA with extra cash of their own to boost their local economies. 

The committee will now enjoy a small respite and break, but plans are already in the works for next year, with the dates locked in for October 5 and 6. 

“We love putting this event on, so we would like to thank everyone for their support,” Mr Chirgwin said.
