This year there are two Showgirl entrants, Makalia Ciccia and Emma Gale, who were judged last week.
Showgirl co-ordinator Melina Mandaglio said there had been good interest in the competition this year.
“Both girls were very excited to take it on and be part of it,” she said.
“The judges had a hard time.”
Showgirl entrants are judged on personality and confidence, as well as knowledge and involvement in the community and overall presentation in senior categories.
“People need to think that it’s not a beauty pageant,” Miss Mandaglio said.
“It is something to help young women grow and mature. It’s a life experience and a chance to meet many new people.”
The Leeton Showgirl will progress to the zone final on March 2 at Junee, with winners then progressing to state judging at the 2019 Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Miss Teen Showgirl (13-17 years) will also be announced on opening night, with entries closing at 3pm that afternoon.
Entries for all other categories will be taken on Saturday, with Miss Junior Showgirl (10-12 years) closing at 8.45am, Miss Sub-Junior Showgirl (six to nine years) at 9.45am, and Miss Tiny and Best Beau (three to five years) at 10.45am.
