Yanco-Wamoon’s Monique Higgins and Tess Staines represented the shire in the Yenda team, leading from the front throughout. 

It was a strong weekend for the Yenda side who made it through the pool matches without dropping any points.

They started out in strong fashion defeated one of the Albury Thunder side 36-0 before strong performances saw them defeat Central Storm 14-4 and rounded out day one with a 28-0 win over the UC Grizzlies.

They picked up where they left off on day two and finished the pool matches with a commanding 50-0 win over Binalong and headed off to take on Wagga in the semi final.

After leading 4-0 at halftime the Yenda side took it up another gea as they scored 14 second half to come away with a 18-8 win to set up a second match with Central Storm.

The defending champions headed into the break with a 4-0 lead before the Storm hit back early in the second half to see the scores locked up heading into the dying stages. 

Coach Sam Loaloadravu said it was testament to the girls dedication to one another.

“It was like coaching a team of sisters,” he said.

“Since the day they started training together they have been looking out for one another.

“It was a really great effort from the girls given they had only come together not long ago.”

Loaloadravu praised the leadership from the older members of the team.

“They were lead really well by Lauretta Leao-Seve, Mele Lolotonga and Monique Higgins,” he said.

“They we well backed up by Ua Ravu who took out player of the grand final and Emma Hickey who came back from the Gold Coast to play.”

Organiser Rick O’Connell declared the second annual carnival a success. 

“The standard was terrific and we had a lot of people come through the gates,” O’Connell said. Over $8000 prizemoney was handed out.
