President Margaret Henman said the group’s decision to create a petition originally rose from discussions around the towns “aging population.”
However they say the heated pool would benefit many.
“We had a meeting an we decided that Leeton really needed a heated pool,” Mrs Henman said.
“The population is getting older so we decided we would do the petition.”
But not just for the elderly – children could learn all year round, and those in swimming clubs around town wouldn’t have to travel to Griffith in the winter, and patients requiring physiotherapy or aqua therapy would be able to exercise close to their homes.
“By next week the petition should be in most of the shops in town,” Mrs Henman said.
“At the moment most of the Inner Wheel ladies have it and are passing it around, but there will be more copies available soon.”
The pool is currently an eight lane pool slightly heated via a Heliocol solar heating system located on the adjacent indoor stadium roof.
However the petition has already proved to be one the town’s people can get behind, receiving an “overwhelming” response so far judging by a post on social media last week.
“We put a post up on ‘I Live In Leeton’ on Facebook and we’ve had hundreds of comments and likes,” Mrs Henman said.
As it stands, over 300 people commented on the post, with it receiving over 300 likes, showing the idea has gained traction in the wider community.

“The hope will be to go to council to show how many people need or would like a heated pool, and hopefully secure a grant,” Mrs Henman said.
“It is the right time with the elections coming up there is money being handed out everywhere.”
She says while the Leeton pool refurbishment project is looking for funding, it may be a good chance to either add to these works or perhaps move money around to accommodate it in the design.
Now all that is left is for Leeton’s Inner Wheel to approach council with the petition in the hopes of winning them over to the cause.
