Did you know, the 1947 Melbourne Cup winner was a horse from Kooba Station? Freddie Hughes owned Kooba Station from 1926 to 1959. From 1935 onwards he established and ran a successful horse racing stud on his property. Many of his 300 horses apparently had wins, but HIRAJI winning the Melbourne Cup in 1947 is the most prestigious.

The Rice Bowl Hotel is getting into Melbourne Cup spirit, with their Calcutta auction taking place on Monday, November 5 at 7.30pm. There will be sweeps and snacks on race day. The Redneck Rally Fundraising continues with a Christmas stocking raffle. Money raised goes to Country Hope.
Whitton Bowling Club is holding a Drought Relief Fundraiser on Sunday, November 3 at 6pm. (18+only). There will be live entertainment by DJ Shaun. Get into the spirit, go dressed as a farmer. Gold coin donation, with continuous raffles. All proceeds go to the Yanco Lions Club to be distributed among drought relief funds.
A Halloween Movie Party will be held in Whitton Hall Sunday, October 28 from 2pm, $5 entry. All ages, dress up, movie, music games and fun.
The Minister for Veteran Affairs, David Elliott, visited Whitton last week, to announce a successful grant application made by Leeton RSL Sub-branch. The funds will allow the Lest We Forget & Whitton Memorial Park writing to be replaced with longer lasting customised engraved pavers.
