It took a tragedy establish it, but more than 40 years on, the Leeton VRA is still going strong. Known to many simply as “the rescue squad”, the Leeton VRA was founded in 1973 and is gearing up for a weekend of celebrations for its 40th anniversary.

Triple gold medallist Stephanie Rice was in Leeton to launch the start of her four-year sponsorship deal with SunRice. “We are a little bit interested in rice and this seemed a logical relationship,” SunRice chairman Gerry Lawson jokingly told the crowd.

A major operation by detectives from the Griffith Local Area Command resulted in raids on properties in Whitton and Stanbridge last week, with a large quantity of drugs seized and at least two arrests.
