IN division one, Tree Surgeons defeated Faithful 3-2. The first set was a see-sawing encounter with some great displays of rallies and serving. Tree Surgeons’ Grant Johnstone, Callum and Sean Ryan lead the way, holding on to win by golden point 25-24. Solomon Folosaitu and Soliga Alekiteo had a great serving run in the second for Faithful, but it was better court play from Tommy Patelesio and Petero Taitusi that helped Tree Surgeons win 25-21. Undefeated Faithful came out firing in the third with strong finishing by new player Adriu Tagilala and Moji Waqa, Paul Ta’avao and Sai Ratu, hitting their way to a 25-21 win. The fourth set had a long serving run by Folosaitu and with Nick Peterson and Junior Faoa’s improvement, kept Faithful in the match, winning 25-18. The deciding set saw Faithful get out to a strong 7-2 lead, but Josh Martin and Billy Conroy gave Tree Surgeons a complete turn around for a 14-9 match point lead. With the serving then going to Alekiteo, anything was possible, and he got his team back to even pegging 14-14, with only the golden point to play. He succumbed to the pressure and served wide, handing Tree Surgeons a 15-14 win. Best: Patelesio and Taitusi.
