FILM TO BOWL OVER TOWN
Three screenings of newly-released, Riverina-made Backyard Ashes will feature this week. Leeton actors Jake Speer, who is now a regular cast member of Home and Away and Stephen Holt, who has appeared in McLeod’s Daughters and The Tempest, both have parts in the movie.
TRIO NAMED IN SIRU SQUAD
Premiership-winning Leeton captain Louise Strachan and grand final best and fairest Remi Wilton have been named in the 13-woman SIRU womens sevens representative squad, with fellow Dianas player Jess Murphy listed as a shadow.

Twitchers and nature enthusiasts from across the country descended on Leeton at the weekend for the third annual Australian Birdfair.
EX-LEETONIAN’S 100th BIRTHDAY
Mavis Blight recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Mrs Blight, who now lives in Queensland, was a member of the Leeton Shire community for over 80 years.
FIFTEEN YEARS AGO
BUS STATION UPGRADE
Security has been a major issue at the Leeton coach interchange and to help combat the ongoing problem it is set to undergo a major security upgrade. Constant vandalism has proven to be a major issue at the interchange located in Gidgee Street, with incidents such as smashing windows and other vandalism becoming an expensive recurrence.
O’FARRELL WAR OF WORDS
A war of words has broken out between Leeton and Wagga cricket authorities over the deferral of an O’Farrell Cup challenge. Wagga has accused its Murrumbidgee rivals of running scared following Leeton’s withdrawal from Sunday’s encounter. LDCA president Barry Greatz has laughed off suggestions it is intimidated, highlighting Wagga has not beaten Leeton in a representative encounter for five years.
