The Eagles wrapped their season up last weekend with two losses to West Wyalong.
The women needed to win in order to make the grand final, while the men only had a slim chance of securing a spot, which depended not only on them winning, but also other results.
Up first on Saturday at the Leeton Indoor Stadium was the women, who ended up going down 62-44.
One of the highlights for the Eagles was Taya Crockford’s 11 points, but coach Josh Clyne said his team just didn’t bring their best on the day.
“Unfortunately we probably played our worst game of the season … we were pretty flat,” he said.
“They were just too good for us.”
With the MIA League only being a short competition, Clyne said his team was only just starting to get its momentum and consistency moving.
“I think next season we will probably get to training a little bit earlier because the side we have has a lot of potential,” he said.
There is also a possibility a mixed basketball competition for senior players might also be introduced in Leeton.
Leeton doesn’t currently have a senior competition for men or women.
In the men’s game the Eagles also took on West Wyalong on Saturday, with the latter scoring a 74-44 victory.
The scoreline blew out in the end, but coach Adam O’Callaghan was pleased with his side’s first-half effort.
“At half-time we were probably only about five points behind … I thought we played really well in that first half,” he said.
“After that though we definitely let it slip away.
“West Wyalong are unbeaten, but I was still pleased to see we were able to push them for half of the match.”
O’Callaghan said Leeton would also benefit from some form of senior competition.
“What we definitely saw this year was players from the other teams working well together because they play in their town senior comps and we don’t have that advantage,” he said.

This weekend’s grand final in both the men’s and women’s division will be between West Wyalong and Griffith.
Clyne is tipping Griffith to just get over the line in the women’s, saying they will be hard to beat on their home turf at Westend Stadium.
In the men’s final, O’Callaghan couldn’t go past the unbeaten West Wyalong, but believes Griffith will still have a few tricks up their sleeve.
