From a concert in the back of a semi trailer to a portable stage and now the Mountford Park Stage, Light Up Leeton has certainly grown over the past 23 years.
The main focus of the Light Up Leeton committee is the community concert which will be held on Saturday December 2.
However, another major focus is decorating the town.
Last year saw the committee tackle the major project of lighting up the large pine tree in Chelmsford Place.
Light Up Leeton chairman Carl King said it was a “great success.”
“With money provided by Light Up Leeton, various community service groups, businesses and individuals the committee were able to purchase $12,000 worth of lights for the tree,” he said.
“With the support of Leeton Shire Council, Prolop Tree Removals and David Dowling Electrical the lights were erected in the tree.”
This year the committee has replaced the coloured lights that adorn the sails in Jarrah Mall to add further effect to the rooftop santas and street bunting that is now in place in Pine Avenue.
Businesses are also encouraged to get involved with the Leeton Business Chamber conducting a competition for the most impressive window light display for businesses.
Last year Think Water in Wamoon Avenue took out the major award and Starfish Florist and Lanhams Jewellers were the runners up.
Saturday December 2
The day kicks off at 4pm with the Leeton Rotary club ham raffle with the chocolate wheel spinning wildly until 6pm when santa arrives.
There’s around 90 chances to win your Christmas ham.
Local community groups will have stalls set up, there will be plenty of kids activities including the Lions Train, a merry-go-round and a jumping castle.
The concert is the main feature of the night. Once it concludes local bus companies have donated their time to do Christmas light tours for a $2 fee which is donated to a local charity.
