The Leeton Family and Local History Society recently launched its latest publication titled Leeton Lads of the First World War – Our Heroes Who Paid the Ultimate Sacrifice.
Current researcher Wendy Senti, along with other members of the society, including recently-deceased life member Dot Eurell, spent hundreds of hours to determine the men’s connection to Leeton and Whitton.

They trawled through their service records, battalion diaries, newspapers, Trove and many other resources to each could have their story told in the pages of the book.
The book was officially launched by Member for Farrer Sussan Ley, with a solid attendance on the day, including society president Tony Reneker, mayor Paul Maytom and Leeton RSL Sub-branch president John Power.
“Sussan presented a very informative speech on aspects of WWI and the signing of the Armistice 100 years ago, before officially launching our book to the public,” society member Karleen Reilly said.
Copies were also presented by former members of the Wade Sports Foundation to local schools.
“In a couple of cases, despite all available avenues searched, we were still unable to precisely identify a definitive connection to Leeton,” Mrs Reilly said.
“If anyone has any further information or photos of these men, the society would gladly welcome it.”
The books are available at the library, Leeton Visitors Information Centre and Leeton Newsagency.
