Warren Weir has taken up the position for 2019 and the hard work has already gotten underway.
Pre-season has already started, with this week marking the third time players from all grades hit the paddock to get fit for next year.
Numbers have been solid and Arnold has put much of that down to Weir’s influence.
“Last year he came back towards the end of the season and helped out with reserve grade and played a few games as well,” the president said.
“We’re really glad to have him on board as our 2019 first grade coach.
“He’s dedicated, he’s passionate and he’s a fantastic leader.
“We’re hoping he will be able to get a lot out of the younger players we have and have them start playing to their potential.”
Weir has been associated with the Greens in the past, as well as having played and coached various sides at other clubs such as Yanco-Wamoon, Tumut and Wagga clubs.
He was also instrumental in helping to get new recruit Hayden Philp to the club.
Arnold said Weir would be able to weed out the players who weren’t committed to going all of the way next season.
“He commands respect and he wants the best out of everyone,” Arnold said.
“People know this about him and want to meet his expectations and the high standards he expects from them.
“He won’t be taking any rubbish or excuses.
“If you don’t train, you won’t be playing.”
The club is currently in the process of planning its season launch, which is scheduled for December 16, but a location is yet to be decided.
“We want to have a bit of a family day and get the club back into those ways,” Arnold said.
The club will also be participating the new Community Cup nines competition, which gets underway from January 18.
“He (Weir) was also instrumental in getting that up and running,” Arnold said.
