Mr Ryan was unable to make this year’s official ceremony in Leeton where the Australia Day award winners were announced.
His excuse was a good one – he was on the road as part of the Burrumbuttock Hay Run, proving just why he was a worthy winner.
With the 2019 awards fast approaching, residents can now put their thinking caps on and nominate someone in the community they think is just as deserving.

Leeton’s Australia Day committee chairman, councillor George Weston said there were many worthy recipients in the community, but it was up to residents to put them forward for the awards.
“It just takes one person to complete the nomination,” he said.
“This year we’ve created an online form, making the nomination process quicker and easier than ever.
“We all know someone who goes above and beyond for their community, group or organisation.
“This is the perfect opportunity to recognise them.
“Many quiet achievers do so much to improve the lives of those around them for no other reason than a willingness to help.”
There are several different categories to nominate within, covering both younger and older residents, groups, organisations and more.
These individuals, groups or organisations, which you probably are aware of, are worthy to receive a vote of thanks,” councillor Weston said.
“Australia Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the successes in our community.”
Nominations can either be lodged online at http://bit.ly/AustraliaDay2705 or forms available at Leeton Shire Council, the ibrary, Leeton Visitor Information Centre, Yanco Shop, Murrami Post Office and Whitton Post Office.
Nominations close December 14.
