Thirty-one year 10 students have finished the WIN initiative through the help of businesses in the shire, as well as Frank Valenzisi and Ron Arel from GetSet.
WIN is a workplace-based, learning program aimed at students who do not wish to take up tertiary studies at the completion of their schooling.
It particularly targets those who want to acquire a trade, work in retail, hospitality, business administration and other similar areas.
One of those students to take part this year was Imigin McCann, who spent one day a week for 10 weeks at Carramar.
“I’ve always been interested in aged care, but I still wasn’t sure if it was something I really wanted to do,” she said.
“Through my time there (Carramar) I’ve decided now it is definitely something I really want to do as a career.”
Imigin will next year remain at Leeton High, but will also complete a Certificate III in individual support at TAFE to assist her in her career dream.

As part of the initiative, students receive on-the-job training during their one day each week.
They also attended a training day beforehand, which was hosted by TAFE and GetSet, where many topics such as what employers expect, interview techniques, work safety and confidentiality in the workplace were covered.
Dion DeMamiel spent time at Eurell’s where he was able to bring his passion for motorbikes to life.
“I’ve been riding since I was really young, so it was good to be around something I was interested in,” he said.
“I learned a lot and it’s definitely something I would like to get into.”
A celebration was held at LHS recently to celebrate the success of the students and their completion of the program.
Blayne Thompson was another who found the experience valuable after working will Bill Arnold Hotondo Homes. “It was really great … I got to do a lot of things,” he said. “It was very valuable.”
