McKay has injured her PCL and, despite being selected in the squad, won’t be able to take any further part with the team.
However, despite the disappointment, McKay remained positive and was pleased to have still been named in the squad, saying it was a highlight of the year.
“I trialed for that on November 18 … I actually injured my PCL during the trials,” she said.
“I did it in the second game in the first minute, but played on and played the last game as well.
“I didn’t think it was that bad until I had it looked at, which is why I was still named in the squad.
“It’s a bit disappointing I won’t be able to play with the Brumbies, but I guess there’s always next time hopefully.
“It’s actually the first time I’ve ever had an injury too.”
During the trial, McKay was part of the representative side from Southern Inland Rugby Union, even captaining one of the games.
She was among several other players from throughout the region taking part.
McKay was just one of six from the SIRU area to be chosen in the training squad.

Rugby union has been something she has been involved with for about five years.
Now 20, McKay is studying to become a nurse, and while the dream of playing professionally is in the back of her mind, she wasn’t sure if it would fit in with her schedule.
“That’s always everyone’s dream I think … it would be really great to play professionally, but I just don’t know,” she said.
“I guess you never know what will happen.
“I just love playing, so as long as I can do that, I’ll be fine.”
McKay captained the Dianas for the first time in 2018 in what was a rebuilding year for the team.
She was hopeful 2019 would bring big things for the side.
“We’ve got a lot of really great young players,” McKay said.
“We’ll probably start pre-season in January, so hopefully we have a good year.”
