Mindfulness is a key topic often encouraged to support good mental health and is an important component of our personal growth and development. Our environment is driven by doing, achieving, comparing and competing.
We can become swept up in a tidal wave of busyness resulting in tension, anxiety and utter exhaustion. Let’s just pause for a moment and find a passion for self-compassion and reward yourself with the same kindness you would offer to a valued friend.
Self-care and kindness to ourselves involves our mental, physical and spiritual health. At Chick Chat Coffee Conversations last month our local dietitian spoke about mindful eating and its benefits.
Mindful eating involves paying full attention to eating and drinking and the experiences felt inside and outside the body. Being mindful in eating allows us to enjoy the colours, smells, textures, flavour and sounds. Being mindful in eating helps to recognise where we feel hunger and where we feel satisfaction.
Being mindful as we eat allows us to reflect on how we are feeling; are we eating or not eating because of hunger or is it a feeling or emotion such as joy, boredom, stress, self-loathing or loneliness? Take time and savour each moment because choosing a balanced lifestyle of mindfulness, good nutrition and spiritual connection you nurture your inner cheerleader. Self-care and kindness develops the reality of your value and your worth.
