SCHOOLS in Leeton shire will be feeling a little cooler this summer.
As part of the state government’s cooler classroom fund, Gralee School, Leeton High School, Leeton Public School, Parkview Public School, Yanco Public School, Yanco Agricultural High School, Wamoon Public School and Whitton-Murrami Public School will all receive new air-conditioning.
Member for Murray Austin Evans said given how hot the temperatures in the shire can rise, it was critical classrooms be at a cool and comfortable level.
“I’ve spoken to many people across our vast electorate who have stressed the importance of air conditioning in our classrooms, so I’m thrilled our electorate is a big winner in the program,” he said.
Schools in areas like the Murray electorate – that have an average maximum January temperature of 30 degrees or more – will now automatically receive air conditioning in their classrooms and libraries.
Previously only schools with an average maximum January temperature of 33 degrees or more were air-conditioned.
