JOCK Yelland hasn’t thought too much about a professional cricket career, but he’s certainly making waves at a young representative level.

The year 10 student at Yanco Agricultural High School has been selected in the Riverina under 16s Bradman Cup team following a successful carnival with the Murrumbidgee under 16s side in Albury recently.
The Murrumbidgee team won the Colston/Scammell Shield to be crowned the Riverina’s best.
Selections for the Riverina team came from the carnival and it was an achievement Jock was proud of.
“To make the Murrumbidgee team we had to try out … there were two rounds of selection,” he said.
“You had to perform and then make it through to play in the carnival.
“There we played teams from Albury, Southern Riverina and a combined Wagga side. We won the last two days and lost the first.

“From there, that’s where I was selected in the Riverina team.”
In January, Jock, along with the rest of the Riverina team, will play in the Bradman Cup in Albury, which provides another opportunity for further selection higher up the chain.
Teams from across NSW will be participating in the Bradman Cup, with the Riverina team wasting no time in getting into the swing of things at a training session over the weekend.
“It will be a lot higher standard (than the recent carnival), but I’m looking forward to it,” Jock said.
“It will be a good challenge. I haven’t thought about playing professionally, I’m surprised I’ve made it this far.”
Jock has been playing cricket since he was young, with the love of the game something that was passed on from his family members to him.
As he has gotten older, he’s become a handy, all-round player.
“I enjoy both, but maybe batting just a little bit more,” he said.
At a local level, Jock is part of the Yanco Cricket Club.
“The best part of cricket is probably just playing with your mates and having a good time,” he said.
“It’s a fun game, but it’s intense.
“You get to meet and play with a lot of different people.
“I think it’s still got a good future.
“There’s plenty of people with talent around.”
