After concerns there wouldn’t be an on-call doctor available for the Christmas and New Year period, Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) has confirmed a locum doctor has been recruited to provide medical cover in the emergency department (ED) for that time.
The visiting medical officer will be covering the ED at the hospital from Christmas Eve through to January 8.

“Residents are reminded the Leeton ED is always open 24 hours, seven days for medical emergencies,” a statement from MLHD said.
“Call triple zero (000) in an emergency or for general advice and information call Health Direct.”
Healthdirect provides free health information and advice online and over the phone.
While the period will be covered, more doctors are still required to go onto the on call roster permanently in Leeton.
It isn’t compulsory for doctors working in Leeton to be placed on the roster, but the more who do, means less work for all.
