It is well researched that there are many benefits to participating in team sports.
For people with disability, participation and inclusion is most important and Kurrajong disability services in Leeton have been supporting a group of young adults to participate in a women’s netball competition.
Kurrajong supports people with a disability to live a life of their choice and does this by helping people to achieve goals through skills development and creating support systems and connections needed to live a full life.
“Once conversation started about a possible netball team, interest peaked and numbers grew quickly,” Kurrajong manager Deanne Bolesta said.

Once the team felt confident that they were ready to enter into the competition, the Leeton Netball Association committee met with the team and welcomed and embraced them into their event.
“It is lovely to hear the community cheering our team on every week,” Bolesta said.
“We expect next year Kurrajong will have two or three teams ready to join the competition.
