The school zone in question is on Palm Avenue, just outside the Leeton TAFE campus, but was installed with the safety of students from both Leeton High and Leeton Public in mind.
Unlike every other school zone in the shire, this particular area has not had flashing lights installed on approach from any of its surrounds.
Councillor Maytom raised the issue of motorists being caught out by the school zone earlier this year, saying police were catching and fining the unsuspecting motorists.

He reiterated he was an advocate for road safety, but said more needed to be done about this particular school zone.
“We’ve got to put flashing lights in here … you either take the school zone out, which I don't support, or you get the lights installed,” Cr Maytom said.
“The RMS (Roads and Maritime Services) say the lights aren’t going to happen because they’ve spoken to the principals of the schools in the area and they don’t see it as an issue.
“They aren’t seeing the impact of it. I go down there and observe at certain times.
“It’s busy there and people need to be aware it’s a school zone so they don’t get caught out and fined for speeding.
“Their mindset isn’t telling them it’s a school zone. They are used to flashing lights alerting them to the fact of a school zone, but not here.”
Cr Maytom said he would continue to push the issue both at a council level and with the RMS.
“People ask me where this is up to and I tell them I won’t be leaving this along,” he said.
“Something needs to happen.
“It’s not fair on motorists. Yes the signage is there, but you drive down there and see for yourself. It’s not like every other school zone.”
