To test the level of housing demand at the site, Leeton Shire Council is inviting interested parties to complete an expression of interest.
The 22-lot subdivision at is located in Conapaira Street in Whitton and council now wants to test the level of housing demand at the site.
Council’s economic development co-ordinator Monica Armanini said the opportunities for a wide range of people were endless.
“For families wanting to build a new home in an affordable spot, for young workers – maybe even those who travel between Leeton and Griffith everyday,” she said.
“This is almost right in the middle.
“We hear there is a need for housing in the region and this could be an affordable way for people to do it.”
A detailed costing for each subdivided lot hasn’t been finalised, but it is believed each block of land would cost around the $40,000 to $50,000 mark.
Residential land in Leeton is hard to come by at the moment and most available vacant lots cost around $90,000 or more.
Expressions of interest are welcome from those who have a genuine interest to purchase or build a new home within two years at the location, as well as from housing developers who may be interested to explore house and land packages.
“Council recognises the need for increased workforce and housing regionally with growing opportunities for employment in the proximity of Whitton, including farming, food and fibre processing and value added manufacturing,” Mrs Armanini said.
“With Whitton’s rich history and excellent facilities, this exciting housing opportunity also has the potential to be a major influence on Whitton’s enhancement as a residential village.

“Ideally council would like to see housing developed for owner occupiers who are invested in the region.”
Feedback from the expressions of interest will be reviewed to determine if and how council will proceed.
The invitation for expressions of interest is not intended for people wishing to “land bank”.
A document with more information and official form can be found at www.leeton.nsw.gov.au.
They can also be lodged to Mrs Armanini at 23-25 Chelmsford Place Leeton 2705 or by email to monicaa@leeton.nsw.gov.au by March 14.
