The fish were 80-100 centimetres long, with estimated ages of between 10 and 20 years old.
Handled with tender, loving, care and placed in a salt water rehabilitation tank at Narrandera under constant vigil for a couple of weeks, it’s hoped the fish will eventually be transferred to a more familiar environment in Narrandera to resume a productive life following measuring, tagging and sexing.
Silver perch, listed as a threatened species, and golden perch are also in their sights for rescue.
Narrandera Fisheries staff are attuned to fish rescues and take these activities in their stride.
Judging by the smile on the face of Martin Asmus, manager of the Narrandera Fisheries Centre, these valuable assets of the aquatic world are in extremely capable hands.

Bob and Pam Beasley, a highly respected couple within the Australian waterskiing community, were totally surprised but honoured to be presented with life membership of the Narrandera Aquatic Ski Club at the Malibu Water Ski series tournament on Lake Talbot on February 2.
A fearless competitor in his younger years, Bob became a champion across the disciplines of trick, slalom and jump.
He is also a founding father of Narrandera Aquatic Ski Club.
Pam, meanwhile, is a world championship level judge.
In Australia, she has been calculator and chief judge at the Moomba Masters and at the world disabled titles at Melton and Townsville.
Bob and Pam were also presented with a mayoral certificate of appreciation by Cr Neville Kschenka.
This was in recognition of their more than 40 years of service to local skiing and formation development to national level.
