A proposal is in the works to expand the existing radio network base stations at Stephenson Street in Whitton in order to provide "high-quality wireless broadband services to customers in the surrounding localities".
Whitton was one of the first towns in the MIA to have access to the NBN cabled network.
Resident Tracy Catlin was hopeful the upgrade would assist the town to have fast internet, but said most hadn't experienced any issues with the NBN as seen in other places such as Leeton.
"Personally, I haven't experienced any issues … especially not at work," she said.

"We definitely didn't have any of the issues experienced at some Leeton business where they didn't have their phones or EFTPOS working for a few days.
"I think most people that are on the network think it works pretty well (in Whitton)."
The proposed works at the Stephenson Street site will involve the upgrade of existing technology upon the facility, including the replacement and installation of new antennas, radiocommunication dishes and association ancillary equipment.
NBN co said this would enhance transmitting technology.
Work will also involve the replacement and addition of equipment shelters/outdoor units adjacent to the facility.
The company said the proposed work would only have a "low impact".
Whitton residents with any concerns about the proposal can write a submission and send it to the NBN Planning Team, Locked Bag 4001, Moorabbin, VIC 3189.
Submissions can also be emailed to nbnwirelessvic@visionstream.com.au.
