THREE deserving Leeton shire residents have had their moment in the spotlight.
Brian King, Trish Preston and Gary Punch have been awarded separate awards for their hard work in the community from Member for Murray Austin Evans.
As part of the NSW government's Seniors Local Achievement Award program, both Mr King and Mrs Preston were recognised.
Mr King was honoured for his tireless work with Meals on Wheels and Leeton-Narrandera Community Transport, giving 11 years of his time to the cause.
"You don't do this sort of thing for awards, but because you want to be out there helping people," he said.
"It's not just Meals on Wheels or taking people somewhere.
"You're able to check in on them and see how they are doing.
"It's great because you do get to meet plenty of people."
Mrs Preston was recognised for her efforts with the Yanco-Wamoon Hawks Ladies Auxiliary, which has also stemmed many years.
She was unable to attend the presentation of the awards, but Mr Evans was pleased to be able to honour her.
“Thank you to both of these wonderful people who have devoted so much time and effort to their community, and have made a big difference to the lives of so many people," he said.
At the same presentation, Mr Punch received a service award for his 10 years of dedication as Trustee of Leeton Showground Land manager.
“These pieces of public land rely on the hard work of local volunteers and we are enormously grateful for their work and what they give back to their community," Mr Evans said.
“Today we are recognising Mr Punch who has given more than 10 years of service to our Crown reserves.”
For Mr Punch, he said a lot of work went into the showground and he was pleased to see it growing in vibrancy.
"This is quite an honour," he said.
"It shows people think you're doing a good job.
"It spurs you on to keep doing it.
"It would be good to see more young people getting into volunteering as well."
