In 1919 some of the most powerful people in the world met to begin the long, complicated negotiations that would officially mark the end of the First World War – the Versailles Treaty, to create a peace that would last forever. Consequently, 1919 was declared the Year of Peace. As 2019 is the Centenary of that Year of Peace, we are marking it with a special poppy we are asking people to make and wear for Anzac Day and significant events during the year. It is made up of two poppies; a larger red one, with a smaller white poppy with a black centre featuring pearls which represent the tear of war. The crochet pattern for the poppy is available at www.peaceproject.org.au/poppy-pattern.html or on request to the RSL Auxiliary. Although RSL NSW is still not permitted to fundraise specifically for RSL due to the ongoing arduous task of rewriting the Constitution to comply with the Charitable Fundraising laws, we have been given permission to sell badges for Anzac Day, with the funds going directly to DefenceCare, the Welfare and Benevolent arm of the RSL that provides assistance to all service personnel and their families in times of need. We will be selling them at the street stall site in the lead up to Anzac Day. **** ON THE third Saturday of the month, the Sub Branch and Auxiliary members continue to gather for morning tea and openly invite all ex-service personnel and their family to join us. Contact can be made via facebook or rsl.leeton@gmail.com.
