LEETON shire's tourism attractions will be among those featured in a new marketing campaign aimed at increasing awareness and promoting overnight travel to the Riverina. Leeton Shire Council is among others from across the region, including Griffith, Wagga and Temora to sign up to the campaign, which is also co-funded by the NSW government and Destination Riverina Murray. The idea is to get the word out about the Riverina and its many attractions from cellar doors and great shopping to restaurants, leisure activities and more. Council's manager of communications and marketing Brent Lawrence said it was important to be part of initiatives such as this. “(We are) excited to be collaborating over the next two years with (other) councils to deliver a marketing campaign promoting the Riverina brand, he said. "This marketing campaign alone is the single biggest collaborative marketing effort the Riverina has ever produced. "I’m excited to see how it is received by the identified target markets from the market research that has been undertaken and what results the campaign will bring for Leeton and the western Riverina region in terms of visitation.” RELATED In the year ending September 2018, Riverina received nearly 1.2 million domestic overnight visitors (up 16.1 per cent) who stayed over 2.9 million nights in the region (up 11.1 per cent) and spent $479 million (up 56.6 per cent). The marketing campaign has been shared widely with stakeholders and tourism representatives through a series of workshops where an industry toolkit was provided to assist businesses with how they can use the new Riverina branding and get the most out of the campaign. Destination Murray Riverina general manager Richie Robinson described the campaign as one of the most significant promotions of the region ever undertaken. “We have some of Australia’s best food and drink producers and this campaign is about sharing that message and encouraging people to jump in their car and come for a road trip,” he said. **** While you’re with us, you can now receive updates straight to your inbox every Friday at 6am from The Irrigator.
