Harmony Day was established 20 years ago to celebrate Australia's cultural diversity and to be a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.
Harmony Day is all about togetherness and kindness, about sharing experience and knowledge.
Thank you to our assembly speakers Juliane Patenia and Alax Patten-Taylor for their wonderful speeches mark this important occasion and to honour the purpose of Harmony Day. Leeton High School welcomes and respects difference and diversity.
Dancing up a storm
ON MARCH 27 eight students from Leeton High School attended the Bangarra Dance Theatre workshops hosted in our MPC.
Students from other Riverina high schools also attended this amazing opportunity. Our students worked exceptionally hard throughout the day to embrace and learn traditional and contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance styles.
Congratulations to all students for their efforts on the day, especially Skye Heeb and Sophie Mannall who were shortlisted for the NSW Aboriginal Dance Company. The girls will find out in May whether they will be included in this elite dance ensemble of thirty. We wish the girls the best of luck.
Hard work pays off
FOUR worthy recipients received their platinum Jackets during Friday's whole school assembly on March 22 for their outstanding service to Leeton High School over many years. Congratulations to Elise Holt, Felicity Allen, Kai Schmetzer and Riley Taskiran for this marvellous achievement.
Hive of activity
THIS week two teachers from Leeton High School, Leeton Public School and Parkview Public School will visit each others schools to learn more about the school environment and to observe the great work being done in our classrooms in terms of literacy and numeracy.
We will also have the opportunity to showcase some special projects that we have been working on. Our smaller local public school will also be working with each other to learn more and to continue to focus on improving what we do within our Narrandera Network.
Focus on 2020
THE year 6 Transition Program will commence in week four term two and continue for the remainder of term two on Wednesday afternoons. We look forward to providing you with more information about this great program in the coming weeks and can't wait to meet our newest students! Any questions regarding our Transition Program, please contact us on 02 6953 2122.
Students on par
ON MARCH 26 Leeton Golf Club again played host to the Riverina Schools Sports Association Secondary Golf Strokeplay Championships and selection trials.
Eighteen students from all around the Riverina, including eight from Leeton High School, showed up, teed up and had a fantastic yet, at times, challenging day on the superbly manicured layout in near ideal golfing weather.
The local contingency of Logan Mahalm, Caleb Watson, Eligh Watson, Kai Schmetzer, Callum Dunn, Tom Allen, Blake McDonald and Adelaide Heins acquitted themselves admirably, represented Leeton High with due pride and demonstrated the exemplary sportsmanship and etiquette we have come to expect from our sporting representatives.
Blake was runner-up in the handicap event with a highly commendable 73 net with Caleb Watson not far behind on 74 net.
A huge congratulations is extended to Adelaide, who has gained selection in the Riverina girls team and to all the other students in attendance on the day. The Riverina team will compete at the All Schools Team Championships at Yamba Golf Club in term two.
