After winning two consecutive matches to start the new season, the Greens went down fighting, 18-10.

Janiana Ravu and Anna Poulsen were the two try scorers for Leeton, with Poulsen also successfully converting one.

Greens coach Paul McGregor said the Black and Whites appeared to be the early-season yardstick of the competition.

"Black and Whites are a very good side," he said.

"We knew that going into the game. They only had 11 players, but they are 11 solid players.

"They didn't back off their sets."

While Leeton didn't play bad, they did make several small errors that the Panthers were able to capitalise on.

"I don't think we played that bad ... it was a good game," McGregor said.

Ua Ravu was a standout for the Greens, picking up the players' player award, while Sophie McGregor was also among the best.

With several players still coming in and out of the side, McGregor said the team was finding it hard to get their combinations right.

That is something the team will be working on at training this week and next before their fourth round match against the Yenda Blueheelers.

The Greens are third on the Group 20 ladder, behind Yanco-Wamoon in second and the Black and Whites in first.

McGregor urged his players to get to training on a consistent basis, so the team can work on several areas of their game as one big unit.

"We train a few nights a week some weeks, but the problem we're having is we are getting different girls turn up on different nights ... never everyone at the same time," he said.

"It's hard with people's work commitments and that kind of thing, but we really need to be training as a team and getting people there regularly.

"That's the only way we'll get ourselves and things like our combinations right."

McGregor sees plenty of potential in his side and knows the weekend's loss will have hurt the players.

"It's definitely not the end of the world, we just need to look and where we went wrong and improve," he said.
