Miss Carroll-McPherson is completing her third year of a Bachelor of Nursing degree through Charles Sturt University in Wagga.
She's spending time doing a placement block at the Leeton District Hospital and finds the on-the-job-training to be an experience books can't give.
"I've always wanted to either become a nurse or a vet," she said.
"Nursing is something I really love. I love people and caring for people.
"You get to see and meet from all kinds of different areas, backgrounds and cultures."
Originally from Wagga, Miss Carroll-McPherson is enjoying studying in her hometown and also hopes to find permanent work either there or somewhere else nearby once she has graduated.

She is the first in her immediate family to attend university, so she's looking forward to finishing and making them proud.
"It can be a bit hard at first with some of the science subjects, but once you get that out of the road, it's a really great course," Miss Carroll-McPherson said.
"This is my first block of placement this year ... I've done many others and will do a few more this year as well.
"I'm here in Leeton for four weeks."
Being a young person herself, Miss Carroll-McPherson would love to see more people around her age consider a nursing career.
"I think a lot of people think it's really daunting, but once you get into it, you learn how to handle all of the different situations that can be thrown at you," she said.
"I'm already finding it to be really rewarding.
"I love learning all about nursing and being on work placement gives me a really good look into that.
"It's very hands on, which is what you need when you're doing a degree like this."
Miss Carroll-McPherson said the staff at Leeton hospital were all willing to help and answer her many questions, which she said made coming into a new place easier.
