The Blueheelers were able to make a fast start after Todd Granger put a chip kick through and thanks to a lucky bounce were able to regather and get his side on the board with four minutes gone.
The Yenda side didn't have to wait long for their second of the afternoon with fullback Moses Lolohea able to break through the Leeton defensive line and shrug off a tackle from Tom Morton to run 80 metres to score his side's second of the afternoon.
Blueheelers coach Willie Lolohea was able to get his side out to an 18-0 lead approaching the halfway mark of the first half before Leeton got their first points of the afternoon after Fredrick Kierce got across the line.
The Greens reduced the lead further with Leeton coach Warren Weir getting across the line to see his side trailing by six points heading into the break.
After an altercation just after the 10-minute mark in the second half saw Yenda's Chris Latu and Leeton's Kelevi Raululu sin-binned Yenda was able to build their lead with Apisai Loaloadravu and James Dole getting across the line to give their side a 28-12 lead with 21 minutes gone in the second half.
Paul Punteriero crossed to give Leeton a chance as they trailed by 12 points with 16 minutes remaining however Dole was able to put the game to bed with his second of the match giving Yenda a 34-16 win.
Coach Willie Lolohea was glad to get the monkey off their back.
"I'm just more happy for the guys that turn up to training week in week out," he said.
"We got flogged by West Wyalong last time out, and our spirits were down. Getting this win has shown that we are in the competition for a reason and are ready for whoever challenges us now."
After giving up 44 points against the Mallee Men in their last game, Lolohea was glad to see a stronger performance in defence this week.
"We scored no points against West Wyalong, and all the points were coming from them, and there was a defensive leak there somewhere," he said.
"All the boys put there hand up, and we all dug in today."
