Leeton is one of five rural communities shortlisted for the Investing in Rural Communities program, which is an initiative of the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation.
The foundation is in Leeton this week on Thursday and Friday to present workshops and talk with representatives from community groups individually.
Program manager Alli Mudford said the potential money would give not-for-profit community groups in Leeton access to grants, skills, knowledge-sharing and resources to strengthen capacity and capability.
"This is the first step in what could be a five-year partnership with the program," she said.
Thursday's workshop will be held from 5.30pm to 8pm and Friday from 10am to 12.30pm. Both will take place at the CWA hall at the Leeton Multipurpose Centre in Wade Avenue.
Bookings for the first session can be made through http://ow.ly/fBbQ30orskl and for Friday's at http://ow.ly/EwVe30orskz.
Mayor Paul Maytom said it was an exciting opportunity for the community.
"(It) involves an investment of funding and staff for five years," he said.
"We need all community groups, sporting and arts groups, service clubs and organisations across the whole shire to show their commitment by attending these individual and group sessions or, at least contacting Alli Mudford, to indicate their interest.
"Only three rural communities across NSW will be successful in this opportunity - let's make one of them Leeton."
For more information call Ms Mudford on 0448 992 820.
