Families in the regional areas, including in Leeton, are being forced to wait up to six weeks for their loved ones to be returned following the process, which is currently undertaken in Newcastle.
A lack of qualified staff and a serious backlog has been blamed for the long wait, which affected families say only adds to their stress and grief in what is already an incredibly difficult time.
Last week Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke announced the formation of a high-level taskforce to review the coronial process in NSW.
Member for Helen Dalton welcomed the move, but at the same time said real action was urgently needed, not committees.

"It's a terrible situation ... Wagga I believe is all ready, set go to do it, they just need (the staff)," she said.
"I've spoken to (Member for Wagga) Joe McGirr on this issue as he is also very passionate about this. I'm meeting with him on August 6 and I will be bringing that up.
"I've been banging on about it for a long time.
"It's all there, it's all equipped."
Mrs Dalton said the government needed to deliver and show regional centres they were being listened to.
"I mean good on Steph Cooke for establishing this committee, however just get on with it and get the staff," she said.
"Everyone has been screaming out about it. It's a great need.
"It's a basic thing. I can't see the justification for not having it (in Wagga)."
Ms Cooke said the taskforce will closely examine whether there is room for alterations to the coronial process to improve wait times.
"This is a positive move in the right direction, and one which I hope will start the process of easing the burden on bereaved families," she said.
"There have been some difficult situations endured by families, who have reached out to me to seek help in reducing the time it can take for a post-mortem examination to be carried out."
