Acting Inspector Johnson said while there certainly wasn't an "epidemic" when it came to break and enters in the shire, it was important for the community to take certain measures.
He said there had been several incidents in recent weeks, but with a little work, thieves can easily be deterred.
"If you're going away, you can actually come down to the station here in Leeton and let us know," Acting Inspector Johnson said.

"We can note your details and undertake patrols of your area while you are away.
"Other things you can do is lock up, put any items away that are outside and may attract attention.
"A lot of people are now installing their own CCTV cameras, but security lights and even having a light or two on inside can act as a deterrent."
Residents should also alert their neighbours if they are going away. As always contact police or Crime Stoppers if you see any suspicious behaviour.
