The well-credentialled trio of Andrew Reynolds, Rohan Dunham and Tony Trembath proved too strong for their opponents Wayne Kefford, Terry Richey and Graeme Ahern, running away with the win, 22 to 14.
For Reynolds and co., victory meant they have now won the title four times in the past five years and they are proving to be a very difficult obstacle to overcome.
The game was evenly matched for the first half of the match with Ahern's team hanging on to a narrow two-shot lead after the thirteenth end.
A turning point came on the following end when a classic draw shot from Reynolds turned a one-shot deficit into a two-shot win, levelling the scores at 10 all.
This outcome appeared to rattle the Ahern side who could only manage to win two of the next 10 ends and ending their aspirations for an upset victory.
The losing skip, Graeme Ahern congratulated the victors, stating simply, "They were just too good for us on the day".
Leeton Combined Bowling Clubs
The second round of a new Leeton Combined Bowling Clubs' initiative took place last Tuesday at the L&D Bowling Club.
The initiative sees the Soldiers Club and the L&D combining to conduct a Pairs' Tournament on the last Tuesday of each month, with each club hosting on alternate months.
Tuesday was the second round and saw a total of 44 bowlers from both clubs, as well as from Narrandera, Whitton and Darlington Point head to the L&D in what the French would describe as très froid conditions. Unperturbed by the cold, a series of close and exciting matches ensued and when the dust had settled there were six teams who had been declared as three game winners.
Organisers were required to drill down into individual scores to find a winner on a countback system and remarkably three teams were tied on 54 points.
A further countback on for and against was then conducted and eventually, Len Clare and Peter Evans of the Leeton Soldier's Club were declared winners with a +26 margin, while second place was also filled by Soldier's Club bowlers, in the form of Dennis Dean and Leo Plant with a +17 margin.
The unlucky third-placed team, was Peter Durnam and John Gibson of Narrandera with a +13 margin.
Clare's win has seen him rocket to the top of the yearly table on 105 points, with Narrandera's Peter Durnam in second place on 98 and Leo Plant a further point behind in third.
