THE quick-thinking of the community has helped save a woman and her seeing-eye dog from serious injury during a violent dog attack on Thursday morning.

The woman and her Labrador were in Pine Avenue when two unrestrained dogs set upon the guide dog around 11.20am.
Amid the barking, shouting and shock, residents came swarming and did their best to stop the attack and help the woman and her dog.
Water and coffee was flung at the animals in a bid to get them to stop, while another woman used a chair to herd the attacking dogs into the front steps of a nearby business.
A young man then bravely stepped in and grabbed the attacking dogs by their collars and held onto them while rangers were called.
Rangers quickly arrived at the scene and immediately confiscated the animals.
The condition of the seeing-eye dog is not known, but it is believed the animal required veterinary attention.
A statement from council confirmed the accident and quick-thinking of residents and rangers.
"Upon arrival, council rangers attended to an assistance dog for a local resident that had been attacked by two uncontrolled mixed breed dogs," the statement said.
"The dogs have been seized and taken to the Leeton Shire Council pound where will they remain until further inquiries have been made by council's ranger services team."
In the meantime, the owners of the animals have visited police and the veterinary clinic to offer their sincere apologies to the victim and her dog.
They have also offered to cover veterinary bills and anything else they can assist with.
It is believed the animals will be put down once the investigation into the incident is complete.
