Cub Scout Leader Lisa Kearines has been recognised for her contribution to scouting by the Chief Scout of Australia and Australian Governor-General David Hurley.
Mrs Kearines was honoured with a special service award for her commitment and dedication to cub scouts in Leeton.
Adult recognition awards are presented each year to volunteer leaders and supporters who have given valuable service above and beyond what is normally expected of a person in their position.
Mrs Kearines was shocked to hear the news.
"My first thought was actually 'wow, really?'," she said. "I was surprised, it wasn't something I expected, but I am honoured someone appreciated what I do enough to nominate me."
Mrs Kearines became involved with the Leeton group when her eldest son joined Joey Scouts in 2006.
She started helping out then before deciding to train as a leader, a position she has been officially volunteering in since 2009.
"I love being able to help a child experience activities they otherwise wouldn't be able to," Mrs Kearines said.

"To teach them skills that will be useful like lighting fires, using a map and compass. To help them build the confidence and ability at skills that are a bit adventurous.
"I also love being part of a worldwide group and the opportunities that provides both for youth and adult members."
Mrs Kearines said she continued to enjoy her role with the group and was hopeful more young people and their parents would get involved.
"Scouts is a great way to make friends and be a part of a community," she said.
"It's a lot of fun and you get to do some amazing things most people don't get to do.
"I've had a chance to learn and help cubs learn to abseil and canoe, I've accompanied older youth members overseas and got to climb a mountain and paraglide in Switzerland."
