Murrumbidgee Police District officers performed 1112 random breath tests and 21 random drug tests over Friday and Saturday as part of Operation Chrome, an operation in conjunction with highway patrol.
The operation, which aimed to reduce the amount of fatalities in rural and regional areas, ran across the eight southern police districts.
Griffith police Chief Inspector John Wadsworth was pleased with the amount of testing the police did during the operation.
"The operation was very successful," he said.

"We have the least amount of staff in the southern region but we did the third most amount of testing."
The operation produced a total of 12 charges in the Murrumbidgee region - including four charges for drink driving and two charges for drug driving - along with eight arrests for traffic infringements and 24 traffic infringement notices.
However, the end of the operation will not end the crack down on driving under the influence, with Chief Inspector Wadsworth stating the police force still have other operations in progress.
"Although Operation Chrome has finished, Operation Merret - which is also targeting drink driving and drug driving - is still operating," he said.
Operation Merret also aims to reduce fatigue-related fatalities in the region, with police identifying several areas as 'fatigue zones', which will have an increased police presence for the duration of the operation.
Riverina command police also conducted a similar operation over the weekend.
In that area there were were over 600 random breath tests conducted, 72 traffic infringement notices were issued and four individuals were arrested on 13 various charges.
The Riverina command had 29 extra officers deployed on Friday and Saturday night.
