However, 1st Leeton Scout Emily Kearines was one of 30 Venturer Scouts from across NSW to receive the prestigious Queen's Scout Award recently.
As the pinnacle award for the Venturer section, the award requires a Venturer Scout to set a series of goals, organise themselves and others and maintain the determination to overcome challenges.
It is a significant undertaking, with most Venturers dedicating over 300 hours of work on top of school, work and other commitments.
To earn her Queen's Scout Award, Emily helped Leeton Shire Council with research into waste management and clean water.

Another facet was climbing a mountain in Switzerland, which she did with determination and perseverance while having a knee injury.
Emily was on hand at Government House in Sydney to receive her award from Governor of NSW Margaret Beazley.
State Commissioner for Venturer Scouts David Jacobs congratulated Emily.
"The Queen's Scout Award is an incredible achievement that recognises a Venturer's commitment to personal growth and development, as well as community service," he said.
"Venturers who have taken up the challenge have worked hard to complete various activities, which are designed to test self-initiative, management and leadership skills.
"They should all be very proud of their achievements."
To achieve the award, a Venturer must also complete the necessary requirements in all four award activity areas, including leadership development, outdoors activities, personal growth and community involvement.
Awards run in the Kearines family.
Recently, Emily's mother Lisa was honoured with a Scouts Australia adult recognition award following her work with the 1st Leeton Scout group over many years.
The pair have been involved with the Leeton Scouts for some time and said being part of the organisation was rewarding and fun on several levels.
