With the climate change debate continuing to grow hotter across the globe, emotions have been boiling over.
Both "believers" and "non-believers" are passionate about their arguments, but Mr Hanlon would like everyone to take a deep breath and assess the situation.
His comments come after Leeton shire mayor Paul Maytom recently indicated he would be interested in finding out more when it came to declaring a "climate change emergency" at a local level.
This is also something Mr Hanlon would like to see and it isn't something that would cost Leeton Shire Council any money.
However, council has not placed the item on its agenda for ordinary meetings in either July or August.

"I think if all councils declared a climate change emergency it sends a message to the federal government that more needs to be done on this issue," Mr Hanlon said.
"The science is there. It's not about blaming anyone here at a local level.
"It's not some random crisis that we might need to avert. I think it's something we all need to educate ourselves on more."
The Australia Institute report, High Carbon from a Land Down Under, shows Australia is the world's third largest exporter of coal, oil and gas, coming in just behind Russia and Saudi Arabia.
Mr Hanlon said big corporations across the world needed to do more when it comes to their carbon footprint. "I think in this whole debate people feel like they themselves are being accused of doing something wrong, but it's not the case," he said.
"For me I realised if nothing is done, there's going to be a lot of trouble in my future and everyone else's.
"No matter what, if this keeps going as it is, we'll be able to retain some things that we like about our society, but there will be other things that won't survive."
Mr Hanlon tries his best to do his part by limiting how often he drives his vehicle, recycling often and more.
