That's exactly what Leeton Shire Council wants the community to answer by undertaking a quick survey, which aim will eventually be to improve areas that need attention when it comes to safety and addressing the related issues.
Results of the survey will assist in identifying priority areas of community safety and crime prevention.
According to the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research, in the 12 months to March 2019, crime rates in the shire remained relatively stable.
There were no murders or robberies with a firearm.
According to those numbers, the biggest issue plaguing the shire continued to be malicious damage, where there were 96 recorded incidents during that time period.
The second highest was the amount of break and enters at homes, with 83 reports to police.
Third was the number of reported domestic violence cases, coming in at 76 incidents, showing sometimes the danger can be at home and not just "on the streets".
Council's community development co-ordinator Sarah Collis said it was important for residents to provide their feedback through the survey so improvements could be made where possible.
"Feeling safe in your home and neighbourhood is an important part of everyone's health and wellbeing," she said.

"Resident feedback is extremely important.
"By completing our survey, (community members) will better inform the strategy we are developing to identify and continue to work towards addressing the safety issues that are pertinent within our shire."
The survey asks residents how safe they feel living in working in Leeton, what safety areas they feel are most important, whether or not they have witnessed a crime in the last year and more.
The survey needs to be completed by September 16 and is available online here.
