MORE than 10 years ago the idea of having a place for men to gather, have a yarn and put their skills to good use was one that seemed impossible not just to achieve, but sustainable as well.

The proof is now in the pudding with the Leeton Shire Men's Shed recently celebrating its 10th year of operation.
The group held its 10th annual general meeting with a huge number of members attending.
The shed, located on Brobenah Road, is now a place with men can meet, form friendships, learn new skills and just generally have a place to be in the community.
MORE NEWS
Since its opening 10 years ago, the shed has gone from strength-to-strength.
Members have been involved in community projects and events as a result and are now looking further into the future.
The shed isn't just open to men of retirement age, but those of all ages - even just out of school.
President Rob Hutton said the facility was home to many members from all kinds of backgrounds.
"I think for many it's been a lot about the friendships that have been made along the way ... the morning teas are something of a legend too," he said.
"We do a lot of work and projects for the community.
"It's about keeping busy, but just generally having fun. It doesn't have to be too serious."
In more recent years the shed has gotten involved with fundraisers such as the Australia's Biggest Morning Tea.
The 10th anniversary was marked in a low-key manner with cake and a barbecue to celebrate following the annual general meeting.
Mr Hutton stays on as president, with Tom Knagge and Bob Bissett the vice-presidents, Don Graham as secretary and John Johnson will learn the ropes of treasurer from Mr Hutton.
The shed is open every Monday to Thursday from 8am to 3pm, with anyone interested in joining always welcome to pop in and have chat.
