It was a hard-fought battle of the brains for the young student after her section went into the eighth round of words, making it the longest competition in the history of the Riverina final.
The victory means Montana will now represent Parkview Public at the NSW finals of the competition in Sydney on November 8.
Montana is an avid reader who reads big, wordy books for an 8-year-old, her favourite being the Harry Potter series.
"Montana continues the rich history of Parkview students achieving tremendous success in this competition, becoming the fifth Parkview student in the last decade to qualify for the NSW finals," Parkview Public principal Travis Irvin said.
"(This is) quite an exceptional achievement for a small community like ours."
For those at home who would like to have a family spelling competition, the list below is a list of words Montana corrected spelled to make her way through to the state finals.
- Round one: Steel
- Round two: Mosaic
- Round three: Torpedo
- Round four: Accelerate
- Round five: Bystander
- Round six: superior
- Round seven: Delicacy
The competition was introduced in 2004 as a fun and educational way for students to engage in spelling.
